Robert Sherman Hawk passed away January 20, 2015 at the age of 76. He was born on August 16, 1938, one of 16 children born to William and Florence Hawk of DeWitt. He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Neil and Eileen Addiss; brothers, Mervil, Doug, Bill and Carl; sisters, Thelma, Doris, Ada, Deloros, Joanne and Gwen. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 51 years, Eleanor; children, Julie (Gary Hunt), Paul, Melissa and Jessica (Brian Brannon); grandchildren, Nicole, Justin, Ryan, Chay, Jason, Madison, Bobby, Zachary, Ellie, Jacob and Kayden; and great-grandchild, Kamden. He is also survived by sisters, Wanda, Emma, Phyllis, Carol and Brenda; sister-in-law, Delores (Ken Watson) and 56 nieces and nephews. Bob grew up in DeWitt and was always a Panther at heart. His big passion was basketball, and he was the leading scorer in Clinton County in 1956. Upon graduation from DeWitt High School in 1957 he joined the Navy and served until 1961. During his service he was chosen to play on the All Navy basketball team and spent much of his time travelling around Japan playing ball. Upon return from service Bob was a proud employee of Diamond Reo Trucks for 13 years and later as plant manager and vice president of Maco Tool and Engineering in St. Johns, retiring in 2000. Bob most enjoyed spending time with his family, tooling around on his pontoon, fishing, golfing, taking trips to the casino and all sports, especially the Spartans. Bob was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all who knew him and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 23, at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E. Washington in DeWitt. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
