He was born on August 16, 1951, in Flint, Michigan, to Norley and Flora "Betty" Russell.
Mike graduated from Lapeer High School in 1969 and married his wife, Julie in 1988. Together they raised their daughter, Erin. He had a memorable career as a professional drummer and retired in 2018 as the Office Services Supervisor for the State of Michigan.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Julie Russell; his daughter, Erin (Justin) Londo; grandchildren, Jared and Allison Londo; and siblings, Nancy (Stanley) Mazur, David (Susan) Russell, and Susan Russell; along with many nieces, nephews, and countless bandmates and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Linda Wolgast; and brother, Daniel Russell.
Mike will be fondly remembered for his love of music. He was always quick with a rhythm as well as a joke, bringing laughter to everyone around him.
In his final act of kindness and generosity, Mike became an end-of-life donor for the Anatomical Donations Program at the University of Michigan Hospital.
A gathering to celebrate Mike's life will be held at his home in Bath, Michigan.
