Luke Paul Whitten, age 18, of Dewitt, Michigan, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025. He was born on January 5, 2007, in Lansing. Luke was a senior at DeWitt High School, where he played hockey for the Capital City Capitals and lacrosse. He enjoyed fishing with family and friends, was an avid tropical fish hobbyist, and amateur horticulturist. His love of music stretched from reggae to heavy metal to 90’s rock to country and more. He loved going to concerts with his brother and parents.
Luke could go into a room where he didn’t know anyone and make new friends. He helped everyone and ensured they felt they belonged and fit in. His family and friends loved his uplifting character, sense of humor, and incredible hugs. He was known for his hard work, determination, and perceptiveness. Luke always made sure to stand out from the crowd, and he was never afraid to do things his way.
Surviving Luke are his parents, Jason and Marin (Soet) Whitten; brothers, Jake, Ruston, and Terrance Whitten; grandparents, Paul and Sharon Moggach, and James and Barbara Soet; uncles, Damon (Angie) Whitten, Gordon Moggach, and Sam (Danielle) Soet; aunt, Sydney (Travis) Hancock; cousins, Joseph and Florence Whitten, Charles, Lewis, Marin, and June Hancock, Sadie and Abe Soet; and a multitude of loving family, friends, and teammates. Luke's love for his family and friends was boundless, and his impact on their lives will be felt forever. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Terrance Whitten.
