Jean was preceded in death by her father Wayne Durham, mother Bertha McCloy, step father Vern McCloy, brother Charles Durham and husband of 55 years Jack Chandler.
Born May 8th 1936 as Jean Belle Durham, she grew up in the “northend” of Lansing, MI and graduated from Eastern High School in 1954. 2 months later, she and Jack were married on August 28th, 1954. Soon after, their daughter Karen was born in 1956 and son Jeffrey was born in 1957. Jean worked for the Michigan Education Association as a Bookkeeper for over 30 years. She truly loved her job and remained in touch with many co-workers after retirement.
Jean was known to most as Jean Ann, Ma Chandler or Grandma Jean. Wherever she went, there was someone she knew. And if there wasn’t, she would find someone to talk to and have a conversation like they were a long lost friend. People said Jean was “a hoot” which was funny because her favorite thing to collect were Owl figurines. Once you met Jean, you never forgot her.
Michigan State sports were a big part of Jean’s life. She always watched the football and basketball games and wore green and white whenever she could. Jean was lucky enough to meet Tom Izzo and Mark Dantonio and loved to tell the story. Her family will miss the conversations they enjoyed with her during the games.
Those left to cherish Jean's memory include her dear sister Linda Kay Butts, daughter Karen Chandler (Bob Kelly), son Jeffrey Chandler (Janeen); Grandchildren Nicole Czubak (David), Leslie Sosa (Roberto), Bradley Chandler (Kelly), Neal Graham (Karmen Brown), Jenelle Hays (Sean Murray), Andrew Chandler (Hannah Forgey); and Heather Feltenberger (Chad); Great Grandchildren Zak Feltenberger, Hayden Czubak, McKenzie Penny, Rylee Hays, Connor Murray, Harleigh Czubak, Madelynn Graham, Van Graham and Landon Chandler; Aunt Dorothy Delp, Sister in law Vera Chandler, many loving Nieces, Nephews and Cousins and very special Beautician and Friend Patti Russell.
