Loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, friend, and fur-Dad to his cat Coal, left us too soon and unexpectedly on June 3, 2024. Greg was born in Saginaw, Michigan on April 16, 1990 to Ronald and Patrice (McCullen) Beaton and his older sister, Amanda. Greg quickly became the star of the show with his big blue eyes and bright red hair. Red hair that turned heads, even if he was wearing a baseball cap. He’d tell anyone that commented on it that it was any color but red, though. Luckily, he grew up to embrace it.
Greg was so funny and very smart. He always had his teachers questioning how he did his math lessons his way but still got the correct answers. And he could kick your butt at a game of Bananagrams like no one else. He was full of wisecracks but also did it with a big smile making it hard to stay mad at him. Greg graduated from DeWitt High School in 2008 and from Grand Valley State University in 2013. He had a career in the insurance industry and truly enjoyed helping his clients.
Greg loved all things sports. He played soccer and loved to watch both basketball and football. He also loved playing Xbox with his crew. In 2022, Greg achieved his dream of moving south to somewhere with much less snow and cold. He enjoyed his time in North Carolina very much but always called Michigan home. When he loved you, he loved you with his whole heart and always made sure to tell you. And if you were lucky, you’d get one of his back-breaking hugs.
Greg will be missed more that mere words can express but we know that his spirit has gone to be with God and that brings us comfort. Greg leaves behind many friends and was especially close friends with Jarrod Schwartz and family and David Hoffman and family.
Greg was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sylvester and Lois Beaton, Bernie and Jean McCullen, and Nancy McCullen, and uncle, Steve Shuster. Surviving to cherish his memory, in addition to his parents and sister, uncles Jeff (Kellie) Beaton, Mark (Roxanne) McCullen, Bill Shuster, Mark (Susan) Paxton; cousins, Alexandra (Jake), Nick, Katie, Jenny and Brittany.
