Barbara Leigh Vermurlen

It is with heavy hearts that we share the death of Barbara Leigh Vermurlen (née Olds), who passed away on September 13, 2023 in DeWitt, Michigan. She was 71. Barb was born April 27, 1952 to George and Patricia Olds. A 1970 graduate of Everett High School, Barb was a lifelong resident of the greater Lansing area. For two decades, she worked for State Employees Credit Union and its subsequent expressions. In retirement, Barb enjoyed painting, collecting, spending time with friends in Old Town, and many trips to northern Michigan.

Barb is survived by her three sons, Ryan Smith (Ashley), Rob Vermurlen (Alina), and Brad Vermurlen (Alex); her brother George Olds, sister-in-law Dagmar Olds, sister Jodee Melse, and brother-in-law John Melse; as well as seven grandchildren: Maddie Smith, Mara Smith, Nora Vermurlen, Ada Vermurlen, Evelyn Vermurlen, Steven Vermurlen, and Olivia Vermurlen; along with former husband and close friend Rick Vermurlen, nephew Zig Olds, and close friend Tom Cathey.

The family thanks Jillian Peters and the staff of Rosewood AFC of DeWitt for providing wonderful care to Barb in her final 16 months.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, September 26 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes in DeWitt, Michigan, located at 205 E Washington St. A memorial service will begin at 3:00 p.m. with a reception to follow.
