Alva May Nelson, 79, passed away May 8, 2021 at home under the care of hospice and her caregivers, great nephew Chad and Allison Loomis. She was the daughter of Ava and Abbot Nelson who predeceased her.
Alva lived all her life in Bath and worked for 26 years at the Michigan School for the Blind. She was a lifelong contributor to Bath United Methodist Church, enjoyed spending time at the Bath Senior Center and was a member of the school Disaster Museum. She donated many supplies to the schools each year including hats and mittens. In 2006 Alva was voted the Bath Citizen of the Year.
Alva is survived by sisters, Alice Jean Loomis (Wayne) of Bath and Arlene Davis of Florida; nephews, Steven Loomis, Mark Loomis, Roger Pannabecker, Randy Pannabecker; niece, Debra Pannabecker; great nephews, Chad (Allison) Loomis, Kevin (Jess) Loomis, Adam Loomis; great niece, Alyssa Pannabecker; great great nephews, Alex and Lyle Loomis; great great niece Ariella Coleman; and many cousins and friends. Alva will be greatly missed by family and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, May 14, 2021 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes DeWitt Chapel. There will be visiting from 10-12 pm prior to the service at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Bath, MI.
