Alexander "Alex" Keener

DeWitt, Michigan

Born August 15, 1922 in Hiawassee, GA to Henry and Mildred (Russell) Keener, passed away May 17, 2013 at the age of 90. Alex was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ernie, Henry J., O’Dell Keener; and sisters, Estellen Elliott, Lois Kelly, and LaVerne Dollorhite. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Alice (O’Dell) Keener; daughters, Alice Marie (Richard) Stevens, Alexa Gail (John) VanSickle; sons, Alex Mark Keener, Alan Bruce (Laurie) Keener; 10 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 4 step great-grandchildren; brother, Clifton Keener; sister, Maxine (Dan) Knapp.

Alex retired from Fisher Body in 1979 after 31 ½ years of service. He was a resident of DeWitt for 64 years, a member of Bath Baptist Church, and a huge Tiger fan. Alex also enjoyed travelling and was an avid fisherman. He wintered in Arizona where he fished 3 times a week, and had a favorite hobby of bee keeping. Alex loved his family, especially his grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Bath Baptist Church 13527 Webster Street, Bath, MI with Rev. William “Gib” Hale and Rev. Richard Cole as officiates. Interment will follow at Gunnisonville Cemetery in DeWitt Township. The family will receive friends at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E. Washington, DeWitt, MI on Tuesday, May 21 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Those desiring may make contributions to the Bath Baptist Church or Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, P.O. Box 30480, Lansing, MI 48909 in remembrance of Mr. Keener.
