William J. Karye, 85, died on Wednesday, September 5th at Lutheran General Hospital. Bill will be remembered as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who proudly served as a firefighter for many years. His exuberant personality filled a room along with his big smile and laughter.
Bill was born to Sam and Jennie (Louko) on September 27, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Senn High School before enlisting in the Army. Bill worked for National T/ A&P Grocery for many years. His career as a firefighter and District Chief were his proudest accomplishments. Bill was a member of the Moose Lodge, loved to bowl and golf. He loved socializing with friends at the VFW and other local establishments.
One of Bill’s closest friends stated upon his death, “Bill always had my back, could not ask for a better friend!” Others surely felt the same.
Bill is survived by his sons and grandchildren: Steven (Kay) Karye of Rosemont, Minnesota; Keith (Holly) Reed of Mount Prospect, Illinois; and Jay Reed of Lake Villa, Illinois. His grandchildren include Alexander Karye, Sean Karye, Jackson Karye, Nicholas K. Reed, Shannon Reed Moskal, Kimberley Reed, and Michael Reed.
Preceding Bill in death were his beloved wife of thirty-five years, Sandra P. (Shulman) and his parents, Sam and Jennie Marie (Louko) Karye.
A graveside ceremony will take place on Friday, September 30th at 11:00 AM at Acacia Park Cemetery in Norridge, Illinois. Afterwards, family and friends are welcome at PS Pub in Wheeling to share a toast and lunch in Bill’s honor.
