Thomas (Tom) M. Donohue of Des Plaines, Illinois, passed away on November 15, 2019 at Lutheran General Hospital due to complications during treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Tom was born March 19, 1942 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and is survived by his wife of 51 years, Linda (nee Bauer), daughters Mary Osman (Joel), Anne Hoffer (Joe), five grandchildren, Jaron, Noah, Tessa, Blake, Stella, his brother Bill Donohue (Jane Prohaska), as well as many nieces, nephews and beloved extended family. Tom was preceded in death by his father, James Donohue, his mother, Catherine (“Kay”) Donohue (nee Darmody), his step-mother Mildred Donohue, his brother James Donohue, and his sister Patricia Snyder.
As he would say, he lived a wonderful life. He grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota and attended high school at Benilde. He attended the University of Notre Dame and then continued his education in Minnesota at Mankato State College. He started his career with various sales jobs, and spent significant time with Marsden Building Maintenance, ending his career with FBG in Omaha, Nebraska. He loved his employees, colleagues and clients. He was a relationship man at heart.
Tom had just celebrated 49 years of sobriety. Throughout those years, he was the beneficiary of the program and was helpful to many in their struggle with the disease of alcoholism. Tom was a huge sports fan and attended many games that his grandkids played, but also appreciated and enjoyed the Cubs, the Yankees, the Twins, the Vikings, and college basketball.
A gathering of family and friends, celebrating Tom’s life will be held from 4-6:30pm on Sunday, December 1st at Oehler Funeral Home 2099 Miner Street, Des Plaines, IL. A short service will take place at 6pm.
Another celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, December 4 with family and friends at 3pm at Church of Saint Albert The Great Catholic Community, 3216 E. 29th Street, Minneapolis, Minnesota followed by Fellowship Reception in the Social Hall.
