Russell J. “Corky” Steinken, Jr., 87, passed away Monday, February 26, 2018 at Sunrise Senior Living in Park Ridge, IL. Born June 24, 1930 to Russell and Miriam (Rode) Steinken, he lived all but the last few years of his life in Des Plaines. A graduate of Maine Township High School, he married Ellen Kendrick April 12, 1952. He became a master electrician like his father and two brothers and served as foreman on major building projects including the construction of the multi-level O’Hare parking garage and the renovation of Arlington Park Race Track. He was a follower of Jesus and active member of First Baptist Church of Park Ridge, where he oversaw the maintenance of the building. As a die-hard Bears fan he always believed the game could be won until the final second and he was delighted he lived long enough to see the Cubs win a World Series.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years; his father and mother; his brothers Fred Steinken (Lou) of Des Plaines, IL and Jim Steinken (Pearl) of Palatine, IL and sisters Miriam Pisanelli (Jerry) of Poughkeepsie, NY, Shirley Ross (Bob) of Elk Grove, IL and Dottie Wasmund (Pete) of Arlington, TN. He is survived by his brother Neal Steinken (Linda) of Darien, IL and sister Maggie Wolf (Mike) of Worth, IL and Kathy Murray (Larry) of Des Plaines, IL; his son Ken Steinken (Penny) of Rapid City, SD and daughter Kathie Sagredo (Pete) of Prospect Heights, IL; grandchildren Bethany Steinken of White Sulphur Springs, MT, Nate Steinken (Lisa) of Rapid City, SD, Samuel Steinken (Kriste) of Rapid City, SD, Rebekah Sagredo of Rome, Italy and Sarah Sagredo of Wheaton, IL; and great-grandsons Archer Steinken and James Steinken of Rapid City, SD.
