Raymond T. Nelson, 85, of Orlando, Florida (formerly of Chicago) passed away Friday, August 19, 2022. He was born on July 20, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois and later served honorably in the United States National Guard. Ray retired from the City of Chicago Office of Emergency Management Communication as Assistant Chief Operating Engineer in 1998. Ray and his late wife Esther took the time to travel and enjoy family and friends before her death in 2005. Ray then spent his retirement traveling down to Florida as a snowbird until relocating with his daughter in 2020. Ray enjoyed golfing and spent years trying to perfect his game. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, whether at home or traveling to Disney and drinking around Epcot. He also enjoyed attending a Blackhawks game with the boys or cheering them on from his recliner at home.
Ray was preceded in death by his loving wife, Esther (nee Pace); brothers, Carl, Donald and Lee. He is survived by his sons, Raymond J. (Victoria) and Mark; daughter, Jennifer (Matt Eleveld); sister, Nancy Solem; grandchildren, Whitney, McKenzie (Jon), Kyle, Sara, Timothy and Faith; great granddaughter, Ellie; Beloved "Unc" and friend to many.
A celebration of life for Ray will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner Street, Des Plaines, IL. Disney/Blackhawks casual attire encouraged. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
