Leon Walter Henson

Visitation is 9:00 – 11:00 AM on November 30, 2022 at Oehler Funeral Home, located at 2099 Miner Street, Des Plaines, IL, 60016, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 AM, officiated by Pastor Matt Koenig of Prince of Peace Church.

Lee was born in Berwyn, IL on June 23, 1937 to Ruth and John B. Henson. He graduated from Proviso High School (now Proviso East) and continued his education at Southern Illinois University.

Lee married Meredith Miller of Broadview, IL on September 12, 1959. Lee and Meredith were married 63 years.

Lee served in the United States Coast Guard from 1958 to 1962, including assignments in New Orleans and Alaska. Lee worked in retail sales for beer, wine and spirits initially in Des Plaines and later in Harvard, Illinois. Lee was an avid golfer and USGA member, something he shared with his father. Lee was the President of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for many years, serving the people with compassion and toughness when needed.

Lee is preceded in death by his son, Patrick, and is survived by Meredith, Tim and Amy Henson with their children, Makayla, Wyatt and Taylor, Mike and Kathy Henson with their children, Jeremy and Jarrett.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Salvation Army, which Lee often cited for their exceptional work during disaster relief.
