Harold C. Johnson of Rogers Park area in Chicago, IL., formerly of South Haven, MI., passed away on March 7, 2023 in North Riverside, Illinois at the age of 88. He was born Sept. 18th, 1934 in South Haven, MI., the 4th child of the late Irving Johnson and Melissa Hunt.
He loved driving, music, singing, travel, collecting things and meeting new people. Working as a limo driver, he forged many long-lasting friendships and became a preferred driver for many of Chicago’s elite personalities. As one of the longest active members of The Apollo Chorus (Chicago’s premier choral ensemble), he fulfilled his love of singing. Harold enjoyed meeting new people, attending classical music events, and finding new and interesting places to dine out. As a collector of various buttons, Harold was usually seen with his “hat of buttons” – each with a story to tell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Mildred Turner and grandchildren Melissa and Melinda. He is survived by his wife Nancy Johnson, daughters Cynthia Sum and Julie McClammy, grandchildren Aimee (Ronnie), Joseph, Jessica, Zachary and Heather, great-grandchildren Jonathon, Lexi, Braiden, Haley, Cayla, Adrian, Clayton, Quanell, Landen and Kamdyn, and great-great grandchild Azalynn, siblings Rose Hoag, Irving (Joyce) Johnson and Clara Start, step-children Jeremy (Begona) Cowan and Malaika Cowan and step-grandchild David.
A celebration of his life will be at Ridgewood Memorial Park, 9900 N Milwaukee Ave., Des Plaines, IL 60016 on April 19th, 2023 at 11:00am. Lunch reception to follow at Hackney's on Lake at 1:00 pm. 1514 E Lake Ave Glenview IL. In lieu of flowers, contributions to The Apollo Chorus of Chicago ( https://www.apollochorus.org/donate/).
