Georgene J. Sigle of Sleepy Hollow, IL passed away on December 27, 2023 at the age of 90 with her family by her side. She was born June 17, 1933 in Chicago, IL and lived in the Chicagoland area for the majority of her entire life. Her parents, Edward and Adele Tabel moved their family to Utah for a few years as her father served in the Navy during WWII.
Georgene married Helmut Sigle on May 14, 1955 and they raised 3 children, Lesley, Valerie and Ronald. They lived in Chicago, and then moved the family to Niles, IL where they resided for 46 years.
She surrounded herself with family, as well as many long-time friends of her and Helmut. Georgene loved entertaining, cooking and hosting for the holidays as well as special events such as birthday’s, baptisms, graduations etc. She loved to shop and she made shopping an adventure with her kids, and then later on in life with her grandchildren as well! She would tell stories, and have us laughing so hard at times! Georgene has a gift for encouraging family and her friends as well as strangers that would cross her path. She also loved to read, and even just a few months ago finished reading a few more James Patterson Novels finishing them in July. She loved boating, volleyball, traveling, swimming and bicycling with many of their dear longtime friends.
Georgene took special care of her husband, Helmut for many years and made sure they traveled to his 601st TCA reunions in different states as his health was declining. She exhibited extraordinary care and strength for others as well as for herself…we fondly called her “one tough cookie”.
She is survived by her children Lesley (Edward) Fitzsimmons, Valerie (Bill) Kosmieja, Ronald (Linda); Grandchildren Carrie (Tom) Frederickson, Carissa (Kevin) Coffey, Brian (Meg) Parker, and Susan (Joey) LeGrand; and 9 great-grandchildren Layla, Dylan, Emilia, Emmet, Max, Charlotte, Bodie, Nora, and Phoebe; as well as her sister, Cheryl (Thomas) Fletcher, brother in law John Phillips, sister in law, Nora Streng, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Helmut, parents Edward and Adele, and her sister Dawn.
The family would like to thank Journey Care Hospice for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in their final days.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Georgene's honor to St. Jude's Children Hospital, American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
