Edward Joseph Archibald, (90), of Northbrook, Illinois passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 19, 2022. Edward was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois and was a graduate of Purdue University from where he received his B.S. in Civil Engineering in 1953, and met his wife, Mary Helen (Neal) Archibald.
Married on June 19, 1954, they were the proud parents of 3 daughters - Mary Jane (Daniel) Schneider, Susan (Murray) Outlaw, and Nancy (Bruce) MacRae. Together for 46 years they enjoyed raising their family, building his business, family vacations, dancing, music, community theater, bridge club, and active community involvement in Lincolnwood where they raised their family. Ed was also quite fond of starting many projects, although not always finishing them. To further advance his career, they were fortunate to pursue an opportunity to move his family to Athens, Greece for a 2 year fascinating international adventure. And they were especially proud of welcoming 3 of their 4 grandchildren together, Daniel and Denise Outlaw and Kyle MacRae. After Mary Helen died of breast cancer in 2000, Ed welcomed another grandchild, Jackson MacRae, and 4 great grandchildren Jameson and Sloan Outlaw, Kennedy and Connor Karlowicz.
Edward was fortunate to find love again and married high school classmate Danna (Maze) Archibald on September 21, 2002. Together they enjoyed travelling, dancing, dinner dates, and sharing their families, as Ed was stepfather to Bob and Kathy (Maze) Jaworski. Danna passed away in 2011.
In recognition of his devotion to his field of civil engineering, he was awarded the Ambassador Award of the Ground Hog Club of Chicago in 2016. With so many fond memories and accomplishments over the years, he will be remembered by all who knew him as a great gentleman.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at 10:30 am at Swan Lake Chapel, Ridgewood Memorial Park Cemetery 9900 N. Milwaukee Ave., Des Plaines, IL 60016 followed by a celebration of life service at 11:30 am. Private family graveside burial will follow.
