A native of DeQuincy, Mr. Smith was Baptist and attended New Hope Baptist Church. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 407. He worked 36 years at Citgo Refinery. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, traveling, nature, spending time with grandkids and being their biggest fan.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Crystal L. Chambers Smith and brother, Troy Lynn Smith. Survivors include his wife, Midge Smith of DeQuincy; father, Samuel Plase Smith of DeQuincy; sons, Tracey Smith and wife Marci of DeQuincy, and Sammy Smith and wife Jennifer; sister, Gayle Kendall and husband Jimmy of DeQuincy; grandchildren, Aaron, Jordan, Seth, Abigail and Luke Smith; the FAV's Troy and Kathleen Chambers and numerous nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be at 2:00 pm Sunday March 9, 2014 at New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Roland Hebert officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday March 8, 2014 from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Hixson Snider Funeral Home. In lieu of flower donations can be made to 12 Stone Ministries, 107 E.
