He was a native of McLeod, Texas and had been a resident of Iowa for the last seven years, moving from DeQuincy. He was a U.S. Marine Korean War Veteran. Norwood retired from Shell Oil Company after 30 years of service. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, and spending time with his family, especially his grandbabies and great-grandbabies who called him "Pop".
Survivors include his children, Norwood "Buddy" Long, Jr. and wife, Ann of DeQuincy, Julie Benny and wife, Diana of Iowa, Ricky Long of Wimberly, Texas, Susan Menasco and husband, Bobby of Florien, Patrick Long and wife, Lee of Iowa, Lisa Batchelor and husband, Rick of Iowa, and Melanie Long and wife, Maire of Florien; his sisters, Ellen Chance of Monroe, and Mary Sue Burr of Greenville, Texas; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren with one on the way; and seven great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Marie Long; three sisters; and two brothers.
His funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 8, in Hixson-Snider Funeral Home of DeQuincy. Pastor Rick Batchelor will officiate. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery in DeQuincy.
