He lived near DeQuincy in the Perkins Settlement during his childhood and youth. Denny attended DeQuincy schools where he was a member of the DHS football team. He also attended Pine Grove Baptist Church during that time. As a young adult, Denny moved to Spokane, Washington where he worked as a plumber/steamfitter. He shared the message of Jesus Christ with those he met. Denny had a constant song in his heart, always singing, whistling, and enjoyed a life filled with laughter.
Denny is survived by his wife at heart, Mieko Bertrand of Spokane; daughter, Darla Merriman of Post Falls, ID; stepchildren, Tom Bertrand, Greg Wolt and Jann Olsen; as well as many grandchildren, great- grandchildren, and numerous friends. He is also survived by his sister, Nettie Sue Walker of Houston, TX: two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Gene (Zora) Bertrand of Lake Charles, LA and Mrs. Shirley (Nell) Bertrand of Sulphur, LA; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Alvin, Sherman, Shirley, J.W. “Junior”, Huey P. “Tucker”, and Gene; and his sister, Isabelle Fotenos.
