Betty Jean Stacy Smith Bergeron, 83, of Lake Charles, passed from this life on Wednesday, May 24, 2023. She was born on September 14, 1939 in Lake Arthur, Louisiana to her late parents, Walter and Ella Stacy.
Betty was a very active person. She was a member of the Cajun French Music Association, Calcasieu Council on Aging (Senior Games), Iowa Senior Group, and Sunday McDonald’s Coffee Group. Betty volunteered for the Medical Reserve Group and also worked for Hixson’s Funeral Home and helped with the Hixson L.I.F.T. program (Living Information for Today). Betty was owner/operator of Betty’s Flower Shop and was known for her beautiful arrangements. She was known for her wonderful baking. If you knew Betty-you have eaten one of her cakes or cookies. She was a generous Christian woman who loved her friends and family very much.
She is survived by her children, Connie (James) Sonnier and Becky (Steve) Cameron; step children, James (Sherry), Bill (Vicky), and Kathy (Peanut); brother, David (Lydia) Stacy; grandchildren, Brad, Jamie, April, Josh, Megan, Rachel, Dylan, and Tyler; along with numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Betty is preceded in death by her husbands, Raymond Smith and James Bergeron, Sr.; one son, Tommy Smith; her parents; four siblings; along with two grandchildren.
A Celebration of Betty’s life will be held at a later date.
