Thomas Richard (Dick) Claman, 89, passed away peacefully at his home on June 3, 2020. He was born on September 22, 1930 to Joseph and Hazel (Taylor) Claman in Gilmore City, Iowa. His incredible love of family and his immense sense of humor made him a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He was also a devoted friend to all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of humor, love, and generosity to all.
Dick was a life member of the Knights of Columbus. He served as Grand Knight of Council 582 in Colorado Springs. He was also a long-time member of the Retired Enlisted Association where he served in numerous offices.
He, along with his adoring wife, raised an amazing family while serving his country in the United States Air Force from 1950 – 1970. He retired at the rank of Staff Sergeant. He then held several Civil Service jobs before becoming a Federal Police Officer at the United States Mint. He retired from there in 1992. From there it was mainly a retirement filled with visiting his family in California, Kansas, and Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 63 years, Kathryn, a daughter, Diana, and a brother, Robert. Dick is survived by eight children: Thomas R Claman, Jr, John Claman and his wife Cherlyn, Teresa Claman, Norma Lewis and her husband Mike, Roger Claman and his wife Patricia. Joan Claman, Nancy Claman, and Angela Claman. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren, one sister, Josephine Simms, and two brothers, James Claman and Joe Claman.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations may be made in Dick’s name to the Knights of Columbus or the American Stroke Association (www.stroke.org).
