Terry was born October 8, 1948 in Decatur, IL. He was the son of Thomas E. Newbern and Lettie L. Newbern.
Growing up in Decatur, Terry was a member of St. Peter A.M.E Church and attended Decatur Public Schools, graduating from Eisenhower High School. Terry received his Bachelor Degree from Eureka College, Eureka, IL, and later received his Master of Business Administration from the University of Indiana.
After graduation, Terry worked at Illinois Power before moving to Denver, CO. In Denver he started his career at Public Service Company of Colorado and throughout his career continued to work in the field of oil and natural gas until he retired from Western Geco.
He became the family historian because of his knowledge and love of history. He researched the family genealogy, expanding the family tree. Terry was an avid sports fan. He had a particular affinity for the Denver Broncos and Nuggets. Terry had a way of making his children feel loved. He would share special moments with his daughter, especially when they danced together at her wedding. He was always there when you needed him. He was a former member of Shorter A.M.E. Church, where he was a member of the team that operated the sound system.
He leaves to cherish fond memories: son Adrian Newbern and Stephanie Bell, daughter Monique and Cliff Sims, and son Martin and Marlene Mayo all of Denver, CO, ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren all of Denver, CO, sister Nancy Newbern of Decatur, IL, cherished cousin Gloria Bowers, former wives Flora Redd, Ellen Pernell all of Denver, CO and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and special friends.
His parents, maternal and paternal grandparents, and granddaughter preceded him in death.
