Susan Lynn Bunt was born on January 21, 1953, to David G. Bunt and Norma L. Wege in Chicago, Illinois. Susan was called to her glory on May 8, 2023. Susan was the second of three children and the only girl born of this union, with one older and one younger brother. The family moved to Colorado when Susan was a young child where she grew up and attended and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School.
Susan was a devoted mother to her daughter, Katie, who was her pride and joy. She was there supporting her through cheerleading and karate. She was so proud of Katie’s having furthered her education and becoming a Medical Assistant. Aside from being a mother to Katie, she showered her motherly love on her extended children, Shawna, Devon, Tabatha, Cari and Cheri (Lynn). Susan’s true badge of honor was earned when she became a grandmother. The love she had for her daughter and extended children could not be matched to the love she had for her grandchildren, Aidan, Alijah and Emersyn.
Susan worked for the Denver Police Department as a police dispatcher where she developed her lifelong friendship with Kelly. During her time spent working as a 911 dispatcher she also developed a love and deep respect for police officers that went far beyond her career. Susan retired from DPD after 18 plus years of service.
Susan loved the beautiful Colorado sunsets and honeybees. Because of her connection with the honeybees her friends gave her the pet name of Suebee. She was also an animal lover, with dogs being her favorite and she had several dogs as pets throughout her life. Susan loved the color purple and anything that was purple which also created her love for anything that was lavender scented; essential oils, lotions, soaps, candles and potpourri. Susan enjoyed numerous hobbies, from cooking, cross-stitching, crocheting to making blankets for the grand babies when they were born, as well as beautiful, hand-made dolls for the girls.
As a cook she is well known for a number of her signature dishes, a colorful fruit trifle, homemade applesauce, those cheesy potatoes recipes, her spaghetti sauce and her biscuits and gravy.
In her earlier years, one of Susan’s fun adventures was riding motorcycles. She would participate in different rides, having gone on several, long over the road rides as well as off roading at the Rampart Range Recreational Area. Susan also liked sports and would cheer on the Colorado teams, the Broncos, the Nuggets, the Rockies and the Avalanche. Unless they were playing against a Chicago team. Since Chicago was her former hometown, then it was her hometown team that she would be cheering for.
Susan is preceded in death by her parents. Those left to cherish her memory are her brothers, Steve and Stuart Bunt, her daughter Katie and her husband Nigel, her extended children, Shawna, Devon, Cheri (Lynn), Cari and Tabi, her grandchildren Aidan, Alijah and Emersyn, her extended grandchildren, Amari, Aniah, Santino, Ava, Vincenzo, Andrew, Alijah, Ayrie, Alyssa, Johnny, Marley, Izaias, Elyias, Aziah, Sage, Adam and Aries, a host of nieces, nephews and friends who all loved her dearly. She will be greatly missed.
Poem
Farewell, Farewell, my family and friends.
I smile and bid you goodbye.
Shed no more tears, for I need them not
All I need is your smile.
If you feel sad, think of me
For that's what I'd like,
For when you live in the hearts
Of those you love, you never die.
