Richard ‘Ski’ was born on October 20, 1938, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Chester and Emma Szafranski.
Ski attended Perry High School, graduating in 1956 and was inducted into the U.S. Air Force the same year at the age of 17.
He married Margie in 1976 and loved her five children as his own. He is survived by his siblings, Robert, Judith, and Raymond, three children, four stepchildren, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ski was preceded in death by his parents, stepson, and wife.
He was a devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos. He loved spending Sundays watching football and having family over for Margie’s Sunday dinners. You would think he had a fear of the dark based on the number of flashlights he had and every birthday and Christmas Ski would request a new kind of flashlight or lighting device. Eternal rest unto him, O lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him, May he rest in peace.
A memorial service for Richard will be held Monday, February 19, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Olinger Hampden Mortuary & Cemetery, 8600 East Hampden Ave, Denver, CO 80231, followed by a graveside service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. United States Air Force Honors will be rendered along with the flag presentation to the family during the memorial service inside the Funeral Home.
