Richard Everett Shipman passed away in Denver CO on June 24, 2022 at Clermont Living Services and he was 94 years old. He was born in Trenton, MO and he was raised in Fairbury, NE. He graduated from Fairbury High School and also graduated from Doane College in Crete NE in 1949.
Richard joined the Air Force in 1949 and was an Air Force Fighter Pilot and Instructor during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1953. He joined United Air Lines in 1954 and was a United Air Lines Pilot for over 30 years based in Chicago and Denver during his career. He also owned Newton & Hoyt Furniture Company in Chicago and marketed predominately to the airline co-workers.
He retired from United Air Lines in 1987 as a Captain; at that time he was flying international flights on the Boeing 747 Airliner. He retired in Boulder CO and was a volunteer fireman with the Sunshine Canyon Fire Dept.
Richard and his wife Geraldine “Jerry” (who preceded him in death in 2017) were married for 65 years (1952-2017) and they lived in Colorado since 1977. Richard was active in ALPA Association in the local Denver/Aurora CO chapter until 2021. Richard is survived by his loving family of; 3 children and their spouses, 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for Richard will be held Tuesday, August 9, 2022, 10:00 AM at Olinger Hampden Mortuary & Cemetery, 8600 East Hampden Ave, Denver, CO 80231. A reception will follow at Olinger Hampden Mortuary. A graveside service will occur Tuesday, August 9, 2022, 1:00 PM at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 880 E. Wolfensberger Rd., Castle Rock, CO 80109 with the United States Air Force rendering honors.
