Philip, or “Phil” as he preferred, was born on October 15, 1949 in Fond du Lac County (WI), the son of Darwin (1920-2018) and Alice (Engel) (1920-2017) Schleicher. He married Susan (Beck) Schleicher (1942-2010) on July 7, 1974.
Phil was a 1968 graduate of Ripon (WI) High School. He served in the US Air Force from 1968-1972. As a teenager, he became a self-taught guitar player, and he eventually developed an expertise for the travis picking technique. His passion for travis picking led him to pen a book to teach others entitled “Alternating Bass Made Simple, Finger Style Guitar.” Playing guitar in the folk style would remain his most cherished hobby throughout his life. He lived most of his adult life in Aurora, CO where he worked as a salesman for BWD Automotive Corporation, Polar Service Centers, and Werts Welding among others. His defining attributes included kindness and generosity. Additionally, countless strangers, nurses, friends, and relatives can attest that Phil was always the funniest and most gregarious person in any room. It was well known that if you needed a chuckle: go visit Phil!
Phil is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Schleicher of Aurora, CO; his step daughters, Suzanne Roberts (Edward) of Richardson, TX and Vicky Anderson (Christopher) of Austin, TX; and his brother Donald (Jieyeon) of Glenview, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife Sue, his parents Darwin and Alice, and his sister Nancy.
A Memorial Service for Phil will be held on March 23, 2024 at 2:00pm, at Olinger Hampden Mortuary & Cemetery, 8600 East Hampden Ave, Denver, CO 80231.
