Nancy Louise Stephens Murray courageously battled back from serious health issues 10 years ago that would have beaten most people. Those 10 years bought her time to return to her hometown of Denver, and enjoy all of her family together in one state again. Being a daily part of her children’s lives, watching her grandchildren grow and spoiling Rex the grand-dog fulfilled her last years.
Nancy was a Colorado native, born in Denver to John and Sybil Stephens, sister to Ronnie and Jack. She came from humble beginnings and was no stranger to hardship, losing her mother at age 4 and later her younger brother in a tragic accident. Yet she was known for her loving and trusting spirit throughout her life. She embraced hard work and was willing to tackle non-traditional jobs including owning a liquor store, a bike store, an Original Hamburger Stand and managing a Denver Post distributorship with young newspaper carriers. Her kind and generous nature attracted countless people and she was known for collecting “strays,” many who called her mom.
Over her life she lived in Phoenix, Dallas and Philadelphia where she always moved in with gusto, explored and made life-long friends. She loved to travel and enjoyed cruising the most because it brought together friends and family for vacation.
She will be greatly missed by her husband of 48 years, Thomas 'Mike' Murray, whose past 10 years of caregiving are a tribute to their love and dedication for each other. She has left a deep void in the lives of her children, Lisa and Michael, their spouses Mike and Cathy and her grandchildren, Chase and Jessica. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at 3:30pm at the Heather Gardens Club House. Your presence or prayers are requested in lieu of flowers.
