May 18, 1941 – March 10, 2025
Mary Rose Bonin, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and cherished friend, passed away in her home in Parker, CO, on March 10, 2025. She was 83 years old.
Mary Rose was born on May 18, 1941, in Scranton, PA. She was lovingly adopted as an infant by her devoted parents, Vincenzo (Vincent – Jimmy) and Concetta (Fava) Ferro, from St. Joseph’s Hospital and Orphanage. Her father’s passing when she was just six years old left a deep and lasting imprint on her heart.
She was raised in Brooklyn, NY, in a strict Catholic home, where she and her mother shared a love for movies—especially musicals, which brought her great joy as a child. She spoke Sicilian at home and learned English in school, graduating from Bushwick High School in June 1959. Without siblings of her own, her godparents and their children became an integral part of her life, forming lifelong bonds of love and support.
In New York City, Mary met the love of her life, Donald Louis Bonin, while working as a secretary at Western Electric Company. When Donald walked in for his job interview, Mary playfully winked and flirted with him—an unforgettable moment that marked the beginning of their beautiful love story. The two were married on September 17, 1961, at Sacred Heart Church in Staten Island. Together, they built a wonderful life, first in Staten Island, then in South Plainfield and Hillsborough, NJ, before settling in Aurora, CO, in 1974.
Mary was the heart of her family—always ready with a listening ear, words of encouragement, and an open door. She was a source of wisdom and warmth, offering unwavering love and support to those around her. Family gatherings, happy hours, dinners, plays, musicals, and cheering on her grandchildren at their sporting events brought her immense happiness. Her infectious smile, joyful laughter, and signature scrunched-up nose when she laughed will be treasured forever.
Her home was always a place of love, laughter, and togetherness. Whether it was Thanksgiving dinners around a ping-pong table, hosting high school parties for her kids, cooking her famous Italian dishes for special events or the unforgettable "Grandparents' Surprise Sleepover," where her excitement was so overwhelming she lost her voice, Mary created memories that will live on in the hearts of her family.
A dedicated homemaker, Mary also worked part-time while raising her children, finding joy in catering weddings, crafting exquisite silk flower arrangements, and crocheting blankets for loved ones. In 1996, she took a position at ADT Security Services, where her hard work and kindness earned her a respected management role. She retired in June 2004, leaving behind many colleagues who admired and adored her. She also had a deep love for writing and thoughtfully documented much of her life in a memoir.
Fifteen years ago, Mary was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis. For many years, she managed the condition with grace, but in her final months, the disease took its toll. Surrounded by love and the compassionate care of Denver Hospice, she spent her last days in the comfort of her home, with her devoted family by her side.
Mary is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Donald Bonin; her three children, Jeffrey Bonin, Linda Galay (Don), and Garrett Bonin (Rachel); her five grandchildren, Brittany Daniel (Kevin), Morgan Schnitker (Zachary), Luke Galay, Madeline Bonin, and Samuel Bonin; her three great-grandchildren, Raegan, Kristopher, and Hadley; and extended family and dear friends.
Mary’s passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who loved her, but her beautiful legacy will live on. She often spoke of reuniting with her beloved father and believed wholeheartedly in everlasting life. Now, she is at peace, embraced by the love of her Savior.
A funeral service will be held on April 9, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Parish, 18000 E. Arapahoe Rd, Aurora, CO 80016, followed by a reception. A procession to Fort Logan will take place after the services.
