January 12, 2003 - April 22, 2023
Macy Aleshanee Machetta, 20, of Denver, Colo., was taken from her adoring family and friends in an unspeakable act of violence in that city on April 22, 2023.
Macy was born January 12, 2003, at home in Columbia, Mo., to Jessica and Keith Machetta. Her radiant life was lived sun-kissed in the Florida Keys, happily exploring family woodlands in Osage County, Mo., and breathing mountain air in the Colorado Rockies.
Macy grew up in mutual love and mischief with her older sister, Claire Jurgensmeyer, of St. Louis, Mo. Macy was an adoring aunt to Claire’s daughter, Colette Anderson, of St. Louis. Her family and friends are heartbroken at the tragic loss, but are comforted by a vast outpouring of love, sympathy and support.
Macy was a 2021 graduate of East High School in Denver, and a 2022 graduate of Aveda Institute in Denver, where she studied cosmetology. She worked at Voodoo Doughnut on Colfax Avenue in Denver.
Friends, family and co-workers are recalling Macy’s sweet and comforting nature, her shy nature that yielded abundant kindness and care for anyone hurting and in need, her enthusiastic curiosity, her brilliant mind and the beauty she exuded from inside. For us, she is forever 20, forever on a sun-dappled mountaintop.
We will reflect on Macy's last entry in her journal: " I am beautiful. I am prosperous. I am motivated. I am healthy. I am kind. I am happy. I am living my dreams RIGHT NOW!!!"
Macy’s life will be celebrated on Friday, May 5, at 5:30 p.m. at Olinger Hampden Mortuary, 8600 East Hampden in Denver. There will be a public visitation from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 4, at Olinger Hampden Mortuary. At dates to be announced later, Macy’s family will commit her ashes in the Florida Keys, the hills of Missouri and the Colorado mountains.
A GoFundMe benefit has been established https://www.gofundme.com/f/macy-machetta by family friends, who wish to express gratitude on behalf of the family for so many kind expressions of support and strength at this time. Donations beyond the family’s expenses will be devoted to appropriate memorial tributes and remembrances of our beloved Macy.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.olingerhampdenmortuary.com for the Machetta family.
