Born on November 30, 1942, in Des Montes, New Mexico. She was a dedicated and loving wife to Peter DeVargas and a devoted mother to her four children: Annette, Michele, Philip, and Adrian.
Connie lived a fulfilling life in California; Taos and Santa Fe, New Mexico; before settling the last seven years in Denver, Colorado. She had a passion for making homemade tortillas, baking homemade desserts and candies, which were always the highlight of family gatherings. She had a green thumb and loved tending to her flowers and plants. She enjoyed reading and going to the movies. Connie was a kind and generous soul, always putting her family’s needs above her own. She will be remembered for her deep faith, which was beyond measure.
She is survived by her husband, Peter DeVargas; her children and their spouses: Annette Gallegos (Tim), Michele Whitaker (Jim), Philip DeVargas (Wanda) and Adrian DeVargas (Sandy); seven grandchildren: Valerie Gallegos, Stephanie Kelley (Camron), Nicholas Gallegos (Tyla), Matthew Whitaker (Brittany), Connor Whitaker (Annalis), Gillian Gamboa (Tommy), Adriana DeVargas; five great-grandchildren: Oliver, Weston, Ceres, Addison, and Noah; and three sisters: Priscilla Martinez, Bernice Cordova, and Mary Ellen Trujillo and their families.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Juan A. Gonzales and Juliana Maria Martinez Gonzales.
A funeral service will be held at the San Francisco de Asís Catholic Mission Church in Ranchos de Taos, NM on June 18th at 10 am with internment immediately following at the nearby Pacheco Cemetery also in Taos.
