Lillian Garnet (Walde) Fastenau of Aurora, CO, died on December 16, 2011. Lillian was born in Denison, IA, on January 18, 1928, to William and Lillian (Ruberg) Walde. She was baptized on April 27, 1928, and completed her confirmation instruction on March 29, 1942, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
Lillian is survived by her husband, Arden, and three daughters, Marcia (John) Imse, Beth (David) Sjaastad, and Eileen (Parley) Johnson, and six grandsons, Jared Imse, Nathan Imse, Kevin Sjaastad, Daniel Sjaastad, Steven Johnson, and Scott (Lyndsay) Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two sisters, and one grandson, Peter Sjaastad. She is survived by five sisters and two brothers. Lillian is the middle child of the thirteen siblings.
Lillian graduated from Denison High School in 1945. Her ambition upon graduation was to work for the airlines and see the country. To prepare for her career with the airlines, she enrolled in a correspondence course. While studying this airline course, she taught in a one-room country school for two years. Upon completing the course she was hired by Continental Airlines and, after a few months, she secured a position with United Airlines where she continued her employment until she became a full-time homemaker.
Lillian was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church. She was active in her church as a member of the Ladies Guild and participated in the work of the Cradle Roll both as a member and as chairperson of the committee. She was always interested in education and volunteered in the elementary school's library.

The Denver Hospice who provided her compassionate care over the last 2-1/2 years, or
Peace with Christ Christian School because of her interest in education, or
Hope Lutheran Church as she was a charter member since 1953.
