Thank you for gathering us here today and granting safe passage to everyone who has made it, some who have traveled great distances for the opportunity to pay their last respects to our grandmother.

We thank you for giving us this time to honor the life of and mourn the passing of our dear grandmother, whom you have elected to reside with you in heaven at this time.

Although it is a difficult period for us who remain, help us to understand that the immensity of the loss we feel is a direct testament to the tremendous blessing she was to everyone around her throughout the course of her life. Not only have you rescued us from the clutches of death and have promised us life, but in the interim you have granted us a near-celestial being to remind us of your great love for us. Help us to see that every moment of her life was a gift to us, and we were undeservedly bestowed bountiful blessings when we came into her presence whether as a relative, a friend, a church member, or a neighbor. You allowed her to grace the earth for nearly 82 years, and though we would have enjoyed her longer if we could, help us to appreciate and recognize and honor the time you did grant her to spend with us.

We also ask for comfort and peace in our hearts in this trying time, and for constant reminder that we were not made solely for our short lives here on earth, but ultimately to reflect your glory and to reside with you in heaven, which Grandma has now fulfilled. Help us to affix our eyes on you in the next months ahead as we encounter daily reminders of her stark absence.

Lastly, give us the strength and wisdom to rejoice in her present joy and strengthen our own conviction of the promise of an ultimate reunion with you.
