She was born September 14, 1948, in Brooklyn, New York to George and Helen Vermilyea. Kathy was the youngest of three children. She attended elementary school in West Patterson, New Jersey, and graduated Passaic Valley Regional High School, Little Falls, New Jersey in 1966. In 1971, Kathy married David Oliva and they had three children, Daniel, Laurie and Rebecca. In 1980, the family moved to Aurora, Colorado. They divorced in 1987, and she never remarried.
Through her life Kathy was employed as an administrative assistant for the Director of Volunteers at Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital, in Denver, Colorado, an administrative assistant for Prudential/Aetna Insurance, in Denver, Colorado, and at miscellaneous cleaning jobs.
Kathy was a strong woman of faith and enjoyed attending church worship services every Sunday. She also spent time each day reading the Bible and in prayer. Kathy enjoyed the time she was able to spend with friends and family, especially during the holidays. She also enjoyed interior decorating, making different types of crafts and taking long walks.
Kathy is survived by son Daniel J. Oliva of Billings, Montana, daughters Laurie A. Nelson (Blake Nelson) of Centennial, Colorado, and Rebecca L. Oliva of Littleton, Colorado, brother David Vermilyea (Ginny) of Goshen, Indiana, and grand dogs Jake and Elwood Blues Nelson of Centennial, Colorado

She was preceded in death by her father, George, mother, Helen, and sister, Carol.
A Memorial Service will be held on October 26th, 2013, 12:30 p.m. at Calvary Chapel Aurora, 18900 E. Hampden Ave, Aurora, Colorado 80013. We encourage people attending to wear Kathy’s favorite colors of purple, blue and mauve as we celebrate her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contribution be made to Jewell Care Center of Denver, at 4450 E. Jewell Avenue, Denver, CO 80222, for the Kathy Oliva Memorial Fund.
She is loved by so many family and friends, and will be deeply missed.
