John Bosch

John I (Ignatz) was born December 5, 1927 in Marie Township, North Dakota - Emmons County. The son of Clemens Bosch & Margaret (Muth ), he was the oldest of 12 children; Alvina, Simon, Rose, Ann (deceased), George (deceased), William, Cecelia, Leo, Frances, Alois, and Mary. He spent his early years growing up on a farm outside of Linton, North Dakota.

John met the love of his life Helen (Duchscherer) in 1952 at a local dance with the help of his sisters. They were married on June 1, 1953 and were married for nearly 59 years. They had 6 beautiful children together; Arnold John, Janice Helen (deceased), Sandra Ann (Michael Helriegel), Myron Michael, William Alan (Lisa Habig), and Carol Maria (Scotty Lawson).

During John and Helen’s stay in North Dakota, John worked at The Garrison Dam, The Sweetheart Bakery, and Allied Van Lines. For a brief period John and Helen moved to Utah so John could learn morse code for the railroad.

In 1968, John and Helen packed up their family and moved to Denver, Colorado. As John loved the outdoors, this was a wonderful decision for them, as they have resided in Colorado since. After moving to Denver, John went to work at the Butternut Bakery for many years. After deciding he needed a change, he began working at C.A. Norgren, where he retired in 1990.

One of John’s passions was dancing the polka and waltz with his beautiful wife, Helen. I think everyone recalls the amazing dances they shared together. Another passion was playing music. He enjoyed playing the accordion, organ and piano. He would often be heard playing the accordion outside as the neighbors would sit in their backyards and listen.

As an outdoors person, he enjoyed doing activities outside, especially fishing, camping, wood work, yard work, and mostly working in his garden. When he could, he would get his family involved with helping with the garden and teaching them how to grow their own gardens. When you think of John, you always think about his bountiful garden every year. He would sit outside on the patio and just enjoy the beautiful days and watch his garden grow.

John also enjoyed to cook. He would always get out the pasta maker and make fresh noodles for dinner. He and Helen would also make wonderful soups from their garden.

Most of us will always remember the smile he often carried and always had a laugh to share. He is fondly remembered for telling the stories of his past and it always would bring such joy to him.

John had a very good life and was healthy until his colon cancer diagnosis in 2010. Unfortunately his life ended as he succumbed to cancer on April 17, 2012.

John is also survived by 6 grandchildren, who he adored and was always so proud of; Gary Helriegel, James Helriegel, Ian Haggerty, Christine Haggerty, Brianna Bosch and Ashley Lawson.

He will be deeply missed by everyone. He is now at peace and is soaring high.
