Jerry Dean Holmes was born on March 3, 1941, the first daughter of Oneida and Clinton Thomas in Grayson, Louisiana. Her grandparents are Albert Simmons and Parlee Leggins Simmons. Jerry moved to Sheridan, Colorado in 1948 where she remained until her death. On April 16, 1960 she married Jesse K. Holmes, Jr. (Kenny) and from their sacred union of fifty-nine years five children were born: Jesse K. Holmes, III (Ken), James A. Holmes (Jimmy), Jason E. Holmes, Janet M.L. Holmes Lovett, and Julie K.M. Holmes Reed.
Jerry was a homemaker who devoted her life to raising her five children as well as nurturing her grandchildren. Her life was filled with the duties, responsibilities, and joys of being a wife, mother, and grandmother.
Jerry enjoyed Saturday visits with her son Ken, encouraging Jimmy with his art, phone calls with Jason, visiting the home of Janet and her children, shopping with Julie at Target Stores, singing, spending time with family, watching the Denver Broncos and classic westerns with her husband, collecting tea sets, the soap opera General Hospital, which she called “her show,” listening to talk radio, dining out at Café de France, her daily coffee and Diet Coke, and conversations with her children.
In 2019, Jerry and her husband were honored as the “Sheridan Celebrates Parade,” Queen and King, in recognition of their long-term commitment as residents of the City of Sheridan. Jerry shared with her family that this day was one of the best of her life.
Jerry was preceded in death by her parents Oneida and Clinton Thomas, her brother Clayton Thomas, and parents-in-law Lola Holmes and Jessie Kenneth Holmes, Sr. Her memory will be cherished by her loving family including husband Kenny, their children Ken (Lynn), James (Wendy), Jason (Tracy), Janet (Cordell), Julie (Kenneth), grandchildren, Justin T. Holmes, Anessa S. Holmes, Jessie K. Boone, David T. Boone, Jaydean K.M. Holmes Reed, step-grandchildren Rob Fox, Julie Fox, Erin L. Petty, Kristen B. Petty, Cordell Lovett, Jr., Brandon Lovett, Amber Lovett, Xavier Lovett, Shaquila Rhone, Tiffany Reed, Kenneth Reed, Jr., Wade Reed, Sisters Carolin White (Nick), Marian Robinson, brother Leonard Thomas, a large extended family including inlaws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
