George Richard Schiel of Englewood, Colorado passed away August 19, 2015, in Denver. He was born November 10, 1946 in Sterling, Colorado to Adam and Adalyn Schiel. George received his Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy and Master's degree in Healthcare Administration from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He was the CEO of Hospital Shared Services (HSS) since 1976, retiring in 2009. Before joining HSS, George served as Assistant Executive Director of the Children's Hospital in Denver. He was a Fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives (ACHE) and held numerous positions with this group, including Chairman and ACHE Regent of Colorado. He served as Chairman of the Section for Shared Services and Multi-Institutional Arrangements of the American Hospital Association (AHA). He was on the Board of Directors of the Association for Healthcare Enterprises, serving as it's treasurer. In 2008 he was honored by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety for his outstanding contributions to healthcare security. George was active in Mile High Rotary and was on the Board of the Animal Assistance Foundation.
George is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Teresa.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Schiel; daughter, Gina (Doug) Haeussner, M.D.; son, Joseph Schiel, and brother, Robert Schiel. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 23 at 11:00am followed by a reception at Olinger Hampden Mortuary in Denver. Find resting place will be Olinger Hampden Cemetery.
