She graduated from Tilden High School, Tilden, Nebraska in 1938, at the age of 16
Emma came to Colorado in the spring of 1940. She did housework and helped with 2 small children and attended Barnes Business College in the evenings. In Oct. 1942, she started working at St. Luke’s Hospital in the Accounting Dept. as a typist and relieved people in different positions on their days off. In 1950, she was promoted to Accountant and worked in this capacity until 1970, when she became Manager of General Accounting at St Luke’s.
In Oct. 1980, Emma left St Luke’s when she was offered the position of Assistant Controller at Spalding Rehabilitation Hospital. Soon after joining the Spalding group, she became Controller. Emma retired from Spalding in May, 1984.
Emma married Morris Kuester, when both were in their prime, at age 75. They traveled, carved wood, played games and read many books together. After seven fabulous years together, Morris passed away.
Emma loved most card games, including Pinochle, Cribbage, Hi-Five and Hearts. In her later years, she became adept at playing poker and Texas Hold ‘em on the computer. She also enjoyed crafts, was a voracious reader, and thoroughly enjoyed playing golf and watching both golf and bowling on TV.
Emma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Morris Kuester; brothers, Loyal (Dorothea) Brink and Stanley (Jean) Brink.
