Craig was raised a farm boy in Grundy Center and graduated from high school in 1955 and attended a year of college at the University of Iowa in Cedar Fall, Iowa. After college he worked for the Grundy County Engineer.
Craig married Jean Marie Otto in 1958 in Grundy Center, Iowa. They happily welcomed 5 children.
Craig was the entrepreneur of several businesses – owning a plumbing & heating company and then a propane business. Craig then went on to become a General Manager for the Cooperative Elevators. Craig was a jack of all trades – always answering the call to help out family and friends. Craig served as a volunteer firefighter and ambulance driver.
Craig and Jean moved to Colorado in 1985. He co-owned a demolition roll-off business, was a project manager for a construction company and a property manager during his career.
Craig retired in 2002 and moved back to Iowa but retirement didn’t last very long! In 2008 Craig and Jean moved back to Colorado to be close to family. He became active in the Optimist Club – serving at the local and district level. He spent 16+ years involved in the Heather Gardens Association Board and Heather Gardens Metropolitan District Board – serving both boards as president as well as a variety of other positions and multiple committees.
Craig was honored as Heather Gardens Director Emeritus from the HGMD Board for his devoted years of service to the Heather Gardens community.
Craig was a life-long Republican – serving in many positions at the County and State level in Iowa and Colorado. He was a Denver Bronco enthusiast and avid collector of John Deere memorabilia. But Craig’s favorite activity was spending time with his family and sharing stories (telling tall tales!).
Craig passed away unexpectedly August 25 after a brief illness surrounded by loved ones. Craig will be greatly missed by his many friends and family.
Craig is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Genevieve Baldwin, his brother Jon Baldwin, his daughter Kelly Baldwin and grandson Ben Mullane.
Craig is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jean; his children Bret Baldwin, Laurie (Jim) Mullane; Dan (Denise) Baldwin, Jennifer Baldwin; his grandchildren Angela (Jeff) Harris, Michael (Samantha) Baldwin, Stefany (Jordan) Boggs, Matty Baldwin, Charlie Baldwin, Noah Baldwin; Great-grandchildren – Clay Pringle, Blaze Janssen, twin girls Kennedy and Quinn Boggs, Declan Boggs.
