Chris Alexander passed away January 16, 2019 at his home in Denver, after a brave struggle with cancer. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on August 2, 1974. Chris moved to Colorado in 1991 and graduated from Manual High School.
After several years of “throwing boxes” at night for UPS, he became a driver. The job suited him well and he loved it: the driving, his regular customers, his fellow workers. All who knew Chris through UPS had the greatest respect for him, knowing he put his heart and soul into his work. That he cared for them and would be there if they needed him.
If Chris had one goal in life, it was to help others. One would frequently hear him say “Whaddya need?” He always put families, friends, and neighbors first. If you needed help, Chris would be there with a smile and usually a joke or two. His sense of humor was contagious as was his positive and optimistic outlook, even while struggling with cancer.
Despite living with debilitating cancer and the effects of chemotherapy, during the last months of his life, Chris never gave up his commitment to his Thanksgiving Turkey Drive for those in need and his Christmas Toy Drive for kids at Children’s Hospital.
Chris had a great passion for life, rooting with equal enthusiasm for his beloved Cleveland Browns or his game piece on the Parcheesi board. He enjoyed it all: from golf to karaoke, from treks in the Colorado mountains to climbing the steps of the Statue of Liberty.
He loved playing with his nieces and nephews and great-nephew and great-niece, plus having fun adventures with his little brother through Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Colorado.
Chris was happy working on cars with his Dad and doing things as simple as eating KFC and mashed potatoes at a picnic table in the back yard. He enjoyed life to its fullest and helped his family and friends do the same. Life was simply better when Chris was with you.
An animal lover, Chris loved the time he spent working for the Dumb Friends League, wanting to adopt every sad puppy, abandoned dog, and adorable kitten. His wife Dee kept him in check from taking in too many animals for their small apartment. He leaves behind two little dogs, Tucker and Annabelle, and two parakeets, Ricky and Lucy.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Stephen Douglas Alexander. He is survived by his wife Diandra Chang; his parents, Eric Alexander, Rita Doland, and step-mother MaryJo Wagner; his mother-in-law, Guadalupe Adriana Meza; his siblings, Patricia Rychards, Catherine Byrd, and Jennifer Acosta; his step-brother, Stephen Power; his brothers-in-law, James Chang and Phillip Chang; his nephews, Caleb Alexander and Julian Chang, and nieces, Bryttany Rychards and Kierra Phelps; his great-nephew Jayden Hill and great-niece Serenity Rychards; and life-long friend, John Sowers.
A memorial celebration of life for Chris will be held on Tuesday, January 22 at 4 pm at Olinger Mortuary, 8600 E. Hampden Ave., Denver, Colorado.
