Charles J Turner on was born on March 13th, 1941, in New Orleans, Louisiana into the union of Duncan Turner and Lucille James. Being the youngest of nine children Charles childhood was very busy and adventurous. As a young man he enjoyed playing basketball. He had a very humble upbringing which drove his passion for a better life. In 1960 Charles graduated from Helena High School and studied business at Dillard University. By the time Charles turned 20 he had his mind set on city living so he followed his sister Creola to Denver CO. Charles first year in Denver he would meet the love of his life Lillian Murray. Charles and Lillian married on his birthday in 1962. Three lovely children were born into this union Andrea, Sheri and Kim.
Charles was faithful and dedicated to his service to God. He became a member of Union Baptist Church where He served on the deacon board. He was very passionate and driven. He served as a Mason at the Centennial Grand Lodge #4. He was also President and Finance Secretary of the Regular Fellows Social Club (R.F.S.C.). During his years in the workforce, Charles was committed and dedicated. He never missed a day of work. He retired from Rocky Flats as a Chemical Supervisor and King Soopers as Assistant Store Manager after twenty-five years.
Charles was known as “Papa” by close family friends, grand and great grandchildren. He was warm hearted and throughout his life he was well respected. He loved sports, gardening and being active in his community. He enjoyed listening to Blues, fishing, cooking, and road trips with family. His past time was eating cheese sandwiches, spoonful’s of peanut butter and telling jokes. His favorite phrase was “Lord hammercy” when the moment was wrong…
Charles was preceded in death by his wife Lillian “Gummy” Turner of 44 years. Daughter, Sheri D Turner, parents Duncan and Lucille, and siblings; Deacon Jessie, Justine, Catherine, Willie Dee, John, Duncan and Mary Lee.
On April 1st, 2023 Charles passed into eternal rest. Charles leaves to cherish his memory: 2 daughters, Andrea (DeWayne) Williams and Kimberly (Albert Mitchell) Kouyate; His sister, Creola Plummer; 9 grandchildren: Seneea (Charles) Smith, Deshaun Williams, Lashay Martin, Keea (Kales) Taylor, Jamie Jaray Martin, Jasmine Turner, Stephanie Fransua, Stephon Fransua, Oneisti Turner; 8 Great Grandchildren; , Knoah, Knoel , Darnale, Jaray, Oshay Lyriq , Carter, and Germany. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins a host of other relatives and lifelong friends.

A funeral service for Charles will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Olinger Hampden Mortuary & Cemetery, 8600 East Hampden Ave, Denver, CO 80231.
