Carol was born in Ransom, Kansas at her grandparent's home. Carol's early home was above her grandfather's hardware store. When it became apparent that downtown was not a safe place for children, her parents purchased a small home. The depression years were not kind to the family, but with hard work, and determination they survived and thrived.
Carol attended Ransom schools until she was fourteen years old. High school was split between Bison High School and Trego County Community High School. Carol would earn a Bachelors Degree in education from Fort Hays State College.
Carol would teach her first two years in Washington, Kansas and be their kindergarten teacher. Carol's dream was to teach in Denver, Colorado and this became a reality in 1949. University Park was Carol's first school in the Denver Public Schools. Teaching so close to the University of Denver, Carol pursued a Masters Degree and completed it in 1952. Carol retired after 44 years of teaching.
A High school friend who was teaching in Frederick, Colorado introduced Carol to a fellow teacher she worked with. Carol and Leroy Santee were an instant match. They married in December of 1951. They'd have three children (Phillip, David and Ruth) and thirty-nine years of marriage before Roy's death in 1991.
Carol would have a second career after retirement. She would devote her time to organizations: DCTAR, Denver Teachers Club, NEA retired, and her beloved church, Aurora First Christian Church. Carol was a tireless worker and served on the boards and as an officer in these organizations. Carol will be missed by all.
