He was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on January 12, 1928, the son of Seferino and Bernice Martinez Chavez. He was the eldest son and from a family of six siblings. His beloved wife, Esther (Flores) preceded him in death in June, 2000.
Billy grew up in Ft. Collins, Colorado and served in the US Air Force near the end of WW II as an Air Transport Technician, until 1949. After military service, he worked as a welder and then later as a USPS postal carrier for over 20 years, until his retirement. He was admired for his mechanical and technical aptitude, industrious nature, ingenuity, and his commitment and love of family.
His pride and joy were restoring his classic 1952 Ford F1 pickup truck.
He is survived by his daughters, Teri Chavez (Scott Murphy) of Denver, Colorado, and Kathy Rittenhouse (Jim), of Pine, Colorado; grandchildren Joby Rittenhouse (Kaitlin) of Midland, Texas, Kaleb Rittenhouse (Kathleen) of Heperus, Colorado, Katri Rittenhouse (Tim Shelton) of Dolores, Colorado, Jordan Rittenhouse of Holyoke, Colorado, Mara Hayden (Doug) of Jackson, Wyoming and Cayla Shaw (Fletcher) of Aurora, Colorado. He also enjoyed his four great-granddaughters.
Bill, was preceded in death by his sister and brothers.
A private celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
