Barbara was born in Dubuque, Iowa, to Dick and Pearl Tietjen, the second of four children. Barb graduated from High-school in Dubuque in 1961. Barb joined the US Air Force after High-school and was honorably discharged. Barb then moved to Greeley, Colorado area near her mother and sister Patty. She later moved to Denver where she worked in nursing homes while she continued her education to become a Registered Nurse. Barb married Air Force Sgt. Gordon Alexander in Denver in 1970. Barb and Alex lived in Germany for a few years while Alex was stationed there. They returned to Denver where he retired. Alex died in 1994. Barbara worked at the VA Hospital in Denver as a nurse until she retired. Barb was very active in TOPS organization and her church, Calvary Baptist. She loved sewing and sewed lots of dolls to take for the little ones at Children’s Hospital.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents and brother Dick Tietjen. She is survived by sister Patty Grossaint and brother Bob Tietjen and many nephews and nieces.
Barb will be greatly missed by her many friends and family.
