Arthur was one of 5 children born to Ernest Sullivan and Flora (Blenkhorn) of Innisfail Alberta. Art is survived by his lifetime loving wife of 68 years Anne (Strathern); children Colleen (Greig) Sankey, Loreen, Patrick (Janet), Mike (Rosie); grandchildren Colin (Kelly), Devon (Katherine), Ryan, Taylor, Kelly and Kyle; great grandchildren Kholton, Deacon, Stella and Jaime; as well as his sister Coralie (Albert) Bond.
One of Art’s first business adventures was raising minks with his brother, but with plummeting pelt prices they were forced to sell the land. However, they found that their pot of gold was their profit in the real estate sale. As a Real Estate Developer and Contractor, forming Art Sullivan & Co. Art developed land and built homes in Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta as well as Arizona, Colorado and Florida.
Art never waited for the dust to settle. He loved action, driving race cars, motor boats, piloting airplanes but always returning to his main interest in horses. When not building or going on family trips he was an avid horseman who competed in Rodeos and Horseshows throughout Western Canada and the U.S. Perhaps influenced by his own grandmother Mary Elizabeth (Stuart) an accomplished horsewoman and racing enthusiast, his love of horses led him to raising and racing thoroughbreds in Ireland, Alberta and the United States. He was always willing to saddle up a horse for himself, family or friends and ride the corrals or open range. His last dust up with a colt convinced him to hang up his spurs when he was in his late 70's. Art was outgoing, generous and kept his sense of humor even in his final days.
I have lived a good life, a cowboys dream come true, the happiest trail will be Lord when you say to me, let’s ride my friend.
Adieu Art - the "Range" is open and yours to wander - "Happy Trails"
