Anne was born Aug. 19, 1928 in Victor, Colorado. In 1940 her family moved to Denver and lived across the street of what is now the Denver Botanic Gardens. She attended Colorado College in Colorado Springs where she met her future husband, Gordon Westcott. In 1948 they both transferred to the University of Denver. She was an active member of the Delta Gamma sorority. In 1950 she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design; and was married to Gordon in Denver in November 1950.
Anne was a true Colorado woman, loving all the great things Colorado had to offer and embracing the western sprit with style. She taught her family to ski at Winter Park where she learned to ski with a rope tow in the 40’s. During her high school and college years, Anne had several part-time jobs including working at a rifle site company in west Denver during the war. Her favorite job was working for the College Department at the Daniel’s & Fisher’s Department store in downtown Denver. She helped customers select clothing and was able to wear anything in the store while she worked. After she was married she accepted a job as a personal assistant in the Land Department for Carter Oil. She resigned when she and Gordon bought their first house on South Eudora.
During the 1970 and 80’s, she and Gordon were part of the Denver philanthropic scene. She gave her time and artistic flare to raise money for many organizations including the Denver Art Museum, Denver Symphony and the University of Denver Art Department. She was the Chairperson of the Committee that raised funds to start what is now the Pre-Conservation Program in the College of Arts Humanities & Social Studies at the Univ. of Denver. In addition to her volunteer work, Anne loved playing bridge. She began playing at Colorado College and continued playing with the same group and several others almost once a week until her eyesight began failing in 2012.
Anne was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her loving husband Gordon died on May 29, 2014. She is survived by her 3 children and 3 grandsons; Susan Stroud (husband John and son Daniel), David Westcott (sons Van and Jens) and Michael Westcott.
