Al was born in Red Cliff, Colorado to Heriberto and Victoria (Tafoya) Leyba on January 7th, 1939. He graduated from Leadville High School in Leadville, Colorado. He married Sue Anne Spanton on January 21st, 1959 in Taos, New Mexico. He graduated from Arapahoe Community College with a degree in Business Management. He worked as a supervisor for Martin Marietta Data Systems for 34 years. He had a passion for fishing and camping around Tennessee Pass (Colorado) area and he enjoyed collecting cars; his favorite being a 1973 Corvette. As dad like to say toward the end of his time with us here on earth: “We did the best we could with what we had!”
Al was preceded in death by his mother and father; daughters, Darlene and Suzanna Leyba; granddaughter, Shantay Huntington; grandson, Grant Fair and three brothers: Walter, Joseph and Raquel Leyba and four sisters: Cora Stearns, Nora Priest, Lola Sandoval and Leona Pacheco.
Al is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sue Anne and 14 wonderful children: Alan Leyba, Margaret Leyba, Abraham Leyba, Ella Monica (Rodney) Fair, Tammy (Bill) Neumann, Elsie (William) Potts, Shane (Lisa) Leyba, Alfred (Celia) Leyba, Jr., Corey (Kacey) Leyba, Aaron (Molly) Leyba, Rachel Leyba, Jessica (Ivan) Dixon, Vanessa Leyba, and Nathaniel (Brittney) Leyba. Also, he is survived by two brothers: Heriberto (Joyce) Leyba, Jr. and George (Julia) Leyba; 30 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Al’s grandsons: Adrian Ortega, Thomas Goss, Brendan Leyba, Tony Huntington, Savano Leyba, Cameron Leyba, Alfred Leyba, III, and Antonio Leyba.
