He was THE Coach. He was the BEST period. He had us running a triple option offence before the guys at Texas had even thought of it. I know I am behind, but I just found out about his passing. Unfortunately, my dad was transfered to Colorado Springs after my 9th grade year. But, because of his beliefs in me as a football player,  this 135 lb defensive back made the All-City and All-State football teams. It all was because of the greatest coach I played for.

Bill Blankenship helped mold the lives of more Denison students than can be imagined -- as a coach, as a teacher, as an administrator. He was a natural leader who commanded respect without ever having to say so. When a student faced him, the student knew he would be treated fairly and the outcome would be a positive one as far as lesson learned. He was a great human being and true inspiration to anyone who was ever around him.

Sending sympathy, love and prayers for the Blankenship family.  May you b comforted in the fun times you had together and knowing how loved and respected your husband, Dad, and Grandpa was.

Bill Blankenship was a force for good in my life, and in the lives of countless others. My first encounter with him was my first day of first grade at Sam Houston Elementary School. It was such a special day for me that I borrowed one of my father's ties and tied it as best I could. When Mr. B saw me in the hallway he said, "Looks lie your tie needs re-tying," and he got down on his knees and retied it for me. Even then it reached almost to my knees.  I had many other encounters with him later in my education, and I will always remember his kindness. His was a life lived fully and selflessly in service to others. I played football in my 7th and 8th grade for Coach Blankenship. Thanks to Coach I ran a little track. He was the best man and coach. If you had a problem he always had time to listen and advise. I for one think he was the best-Period. the good Lord will take care of him for all he has done for so many. Eddy Griggs

What a wonderful man Dr. Blankenship. He was involved in the first computer  
lab in the district which I would have the pleasure to work in. I attend the workshop so that we could all learn how to operate the Radio Shack computer. The first thing he did was hold up a square, flat black thing and said this is a disk! Who knew? He was a great inspiration to many, many people, including me. I am sorry for your loss. I can remember a campfire story he share with us one night at a Halloween Party.  I still talk about that.  Amazing Man and blessed to have had him cross my path for a brief moment.

Our Fondest Memory of Grandpa...EVERY time he Prayed, he would always not just Pray to Jesus, but INVITE Him to engage in whatever it was that was going on at that moment!!  He would say, "...and Jesus, we invite you to dine with us, or Jesus we invite you to be at our Family Gathering..."  Grandpa, now YOU'RE invited to dine with, and be with HIM at HIS Family Gatherings...how AWESOME is that!! What a great man, Educator and family man.  I attended DISD schools for 12 years  but never had the pleasure of being in his class.  My loss.  I recall the way he walked the halls at school, great presence about him, and he always had that little grin that could break out in a large still at any moment.
