Wendy Jayne Richardson Thompson passed away peacefully December 9, 2017 in Sherman Texas. Daughter of General James Abner Richardson III and Barbara Fuller, born in Martinez California born September 8, 1940.
As an army child they moved and resided in Concord California, Alexandria VA while father worked at the Pentagon, Laguna Beach, Fresno, Ambler PA. She was very athletic and enjoyed horsemanship and archery.
She met and married William H. Thompson, March 11, 1961 at Penn State, and had three boys, Jay A 1961, Lee W 1964. and Wade W 1966. Moved to Lafayette, California in 1965, after Wendy graduated with a Parks Management degree from Penn State, and Bill completed a PhD degree in Chemical Engineering and landed a job with Shell Oil. The family then moved to St. Louis Missouri, in 1968.
In St. Louis, she volunteered with the St. Louis Zoo as a docent where she did zoo tours and assisted with animal presentations with the Zoo mobile program throughout St Louis suburbs.
Another Shell transfer in 1973 led the family to West Houston, where they stayed. She continued volunteering with Zoo and kept up with raising her family. She played tennis, archery, planned bridge and poker parties, vacations, dabbled in photography, painting, artwork, lithography, copper enameling, pottery and sculpture. She volunteered during elections at the voting polls, participated in Stratford High School Band boosters, and was a proctor at voting stands during elections. Though not Catholic, she was active in St. John Vianney Church, attended mass, sang in the choir and part of a Virtuoso group that sang and played at the church.
Wendy suffered from an AVM on Memorial Day, 1995 and had mental and physical impairment the rest of her life, where she stayed under the compassionate care at Renaissance, in Sherman, Texas, near her sons Jay and Wade.
Survivors are sister Judy (John) Richardson, Brother Jim Richardson, Sons Jay Thompson (Ann), Lee Thompson (Gay), Wade, and Grandchildren Ellen, Steven, Billy, and Valerie.
Wendy always will be remembered for her welcoming house always full of people, music, parties and laughter. She will be inurned at Memorial Oaks Cemetery on Dec 21, 2017 next to her beloved husband Bill. A memorial will be held in mid January for Wendy to be announced on http://thefolks.com. Donations to the Humane Society in her name would be the most inline with her wishes.
