Lottie Hester Means, 91 of Denison, Texas died peacefully on Tuesday, November 15, 2011, at home surrounded by her three surviving children and under the loving care of Grayson County Home Hospice and of her dear friend and long time care giver, Clara Fleming.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 19th at Bratcher Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 pm. Visitation with the family following the service will be at Lottie's home. Dr. Richard Hester, her nephew, will officiate at the memorial service and preside over interment at Goldthwaite Memorial Cemetery.
Lottie was born on January 19, 1920, in Goldthwaite, Texas to John Allan Hester and Loraine Walters Hester. She graduated from Goldthwaite High School and received a bachelor of science degree in home economics from Southwest State Teacher's College in San Marcos. After teaching for two years in Stephenville, Texas, Lottie married a young naval aviator, Bert Leonard Means on November 14, 1941. They lived in Melbourne Beach, FL, before moving to Dallas where Bert attended Baylor College of Dentistry. They moved to Ft. Worth before settling in Denison where she has lived the last 44 years. Lottie's life was devoted to her family, wonderful friends and numerous cultural, educational, community and charitable organizations over the years.
Lottie is survived by her adoring family and was an admired and loving daughter, sister, sister-in-law, mother, aunt, mother-in-law, grandmother and great grandmother. She was passionately interested in the lives of her large extended family, all of whom loved her warm, welcoming homes, delicious meals, love of history and books, and most of all the wit, wisdom and humor she happily shared through her life "stories".
Her survivors include son, Donald Bert Means and wife Dominque Caron of Sausalito, CA; daughters, Gerry Means Hairgrove and husband Marvin Hairgrove of Colleyville, Gaye Means O'Neill and partner, Bruce Karish of Los Angeles; daughter-in-law, Susan Means of Dallas; grandchildren Courtney Powers, Blake Giffin, Loren Means, Sutton Callison, Chandler Means, Landon Hairgrove, Logan Hairgrove; great grandchildren, Jack Giffin and Marshall Powers; and many adoring nieces, nephews and in-laws. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Walters Hester, sister Geraldine Gary, husband Dr. Bert Means and son Steven Means.
