John Allen Gentry

Born March 22, 1932 – Colbert, Oklahoma

The family will be at Bratcher Funeral Home for visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 26, 2014.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Bratcher Funeral Home Chapel with Quinton Gage officiating.

John was born in Colbert, Oklahoma, the son of Raymond Forrest Gentry and Hazel Elna Scott Weger.

He was a very hard working man, starting at a very young age. His first job was picking cotton at age 4 with his mother. When he was in school, he earned his school clothes money by riding a bus with his mother to Washington State to pick apples. At age 12, he had a paper route for the Denison Herald and The Grit. Then at age 13, he went to work for the Denison Cotton Mill moving bales of cotton. Later he became a truck driver delivering rock at the Denison Dam, as it was being built.

He also worked many years at Hardwick-Etter and Anderson-Clayton in Sherman, Texas. Then he retired from Johnson-Johnson after 25 years. He was in the Army during the Korean War.

He loved country music, the Dallas Cowboys, puppy dogs and old Buicks. He was a mighty strong man in more ways than one. We will truly miss him. Rest in peace Daddy, PaPa and dear brother.

Those gone before him are his wife of 51 years Glenna Jane Malone Gentry; his parents; brother Raleigh Glenn Weger; and niece Rita Elizabeth Perkins.

He is survived by sister Wynell Gentry Perkins & husband James of Honey Grove, Texas; daughters Ellen Jane Gentry & Elna LaTonna Gentry of Denison, Texas; granddaughters Andrea Elizabeth Phillips and Joy Babette Oviedo of Denison, Texas; many family and friends who love him.
